POSITION SUMMARY 

The Centre for Public Impact (CPI) is a global non-profit foundation, founded by the Boston Consulting Group. Through our work, we aim to help governments and their partners develop strategies, programs, and tools to improve economic outcomes for the people they serve. We do this through original research and by creating interventions to improve outcomes through partnerships with funders, policymakers and social innovators.

Sharing our insights is essential to maximizing the impact of our work. We accomplish this by hosting and participating in relevant events, sharing what we are learning through blogs and social media, and proactively taking our messages to media read by government changemakers and their partners.  To this end, we are seeking an experienced communications professional to help implement and manage our communications strategy across our programs. The PR and Communications Specialist will play a key role in shaping and executing CPI North America’s communications efforts, increasing brand visibility and expanding our reach.

This is a part-time role for a 3-month contract with the possibility of an extension.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Increase CPI North America’s (NA) brand visibility, strengthening our communications efforts across the organization 
  • Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive communications roadmap that includes regular content creation across our channels
  • Develop and execute CPI NA’s media relations strategy, ensuring alignment with long-term strategic goals
  • Identify opportunities to pitch CPI NA’s research and work to key print and digital media as well as cross-sectoral events  
  • Cultivate relationships with influential journalists, editors, and producers in top-tier media outlets including web, print and podcasts 
  • Manage design and production (video/podcast) vendors across campaigns and internal projects 
  • Work with team members to craft op-eds for placement in top-tier print and online publications
  • Work with team members to plan and execute CPI NA convenings and related events

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

We are seeking a collaborative, creative, and impact-minded leader with:

  • 6-10 years of related professional experience in journalism, media relations and/or public affairs
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience in government, institutional or corporate communications with an emphasis on communication planning and media strategy
  • Extensive experience and skill in identifying target audiences and determining the most effective communication techniques for outreach and relationship-building 
  • Strong media relationships among those who cover government and social innovation topics
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex information and industry jargon into crisp, accessible storytelling across multiple channels
  • Knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail 
  • Strong, demonstrated ability to build relationships with people of all backgrounds
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and proven track record of completing projects within a fast-paced environment
