Brexit, the impending general election in the UK and the impact of automation and AI on the world of work were just some of the items on the agenda when CPI’s Adrian Brown sat down with the Frances O’Grady, general secretary of the UK’s Trades Union Congress (TUC) for the latest Centre for Public Impact podcast.
The TUC represents more than 5.6 million workers in 50 unions across the UK, as well being part of a union family with 180 million members in more than 160 countries. Frances became its general secretary in January 2013, the first woman ever to hold this post. She is responsible for its operation and for leading implementation of policies set by the annual Congress and the organisation’s General Council.
Find out what she thinks why trust in politics and politicians is so low and why there is a need for a “new deal” for working people in the UK.
