Professor Ken Smith

Biography

Professor Ken Smith is the Chief Executive Officer and Dean of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG), roles that he has held since May 2017. He is also Enterprise Professor at The University of Melbourne.
 
Professor Smith has deep public sector experience and expertise from roles he has held in several Australian state-level governments: New South Wales, Tasmania, and the Queensland. Between 2007 and 2011 he was the most senior public servant in the Queensland Public Service as Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Over the past three decades, Professor Smith's work has mostly focused on national policy issues including housing and urban affairs, social welfare and education. He holds undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in social work majoring in social policy. 
 
Professor Smith has recently written and spoken extensively on the topic of trust in government, a topic which CPI is researching and discussing through our Future of Government project.
